Programme 2015
The Society meets on the first Tuesday of each month between April and November with each meeting starting at 7.30pm at the Methodist Hall, Green Lane, Blythe Bridge unless published otherwise.

New members and guests are always welcome to attend.
Membership £10.00 due April to June and £1.00 entrance thereafter. Guests at £2.50 per meeting.

We publish a monthly Newsletter covering a wide variety of local and national historical topics.

Members undertake projects throughout the year to further an interest in preserving our local and cultural heritage including an archaeological dig during the summer months.

  April 7th From Froghall to Cauldon an outline of the Plateway with Keith Tomkins.
Discover how the engineers in days gone by overcame the problems of removing limestone from Cauldon Low and how the Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership are bringing the ‘plateway’ back to life
  May 5th *** ‘Visit to Cheadle Masonic Lodge’ with Mike Rogers.
An earlier than usual outside visit to a place of special interest to look into the hidden world of Masonry. Ladies most welcome
  June 2nd ‘Long live the King’…or in this case maybe not! with Neil Scott.
An examination of some of the unusual English Royal deaths, burial practices and where they lie now. Not for the squeamish this one!
  July 7th*** Village walk around Draycott
A short walk around our neighbouring village of Draycott in the Moors to examine its ancient origins and links with the Draycott family. The walk will include a visit to St. Margaret’s church.
  August 4th Heath House ***, Tean tbc.
An evening summer stroll around this often used by television architectural gem found on the outskirts of Team and its links to the Philips family.
  September 1st Business as Usual with David Barker
With the German submarine blockade and with many men away at the Front, find out how the local pottery industry adjusted to those tragic four years during the Great War.
  October 6th Children on the Move with Chris Copp
Staffordshire’s experience of evacuation during WW II, based on evidence in the Staffs Archives and heritage oral history project which took place in 2011.
  November 3rd Tales of the Unexpected with Mervyn Edwards
Ghosts, myths, legends from North Staffordshire – and the truth about Molly Leigh.
